Mosquito Abatement

We at Troy Township understand and appreciate the concerns residents have about mosquitoes and the illnesses they can carry. That is why we have allocated funds for mosquito abatement services for the unincorporated areas of Troy Township and have contracted with Clarke Environmental Mosquito Management, Inc. to provide these services.

The services provided by Clarke include surveillance, monitoring and treatment. While treatments do not pose a risk to residents, those who are sensitive to odors or chemicals may wish to register with Clarke for advanced notice of spray treatment dates.

Do you want to be notified of nighttime adult mosquito applications? 
You can sign up for notifications by going to www.clarkeportal.com/hotline. Click ‘REGISTER FOR SERVICE NOTIFICATIONS’ at the bottom. Complete the information and create your own password, then click ‘submit’. Your location will be verified to see if you live along an application route.

To report nuisance mosquitoes or standing water, just go to www.clarkeportal.com/hotline to report standing water issues or high mosquito population levels from your laptop or phone.

In conjunction with the Township’s efforts to control mosquitoes, you as a resident can help as well.

Follow Clarke’s Yard and Home Checklist:

• Get rid of old tires, tin cans, buckets, drums, bottles or any water holding containers.
• Fill in or drain any low places (puddles, ruts in yard).
• Clean gutters periodically.
• Keep drains, ditches and culverts clean of weeds and trash so water will drain properly.
• Cover trash containers to keep out rain water.
• Repair leaky pipes and outside faucets.
• Empty plastic wading pools at least once a week & store them indoors when not in use.
• Make sure your backyard pool is properly cared for while on vacation.
• Fill in tree rot holes and hollow stumps that hold water with sand or concrete.
• Change the water in bird baths and plant pots or drip trays at least once a week.
• Keep grass cut short and shrubbery well trimmed around the house so adult mosquitoes will not hide there.
