EXEMPTIONS:
As a homeowner, you may be able to receive one or more of the following:

General Homestead Exemption:
This exemption reduces your assessed value by $5,500 on your primary residence. The home must be owner occupied in the year the exemption is granted. No filing is necessary.

Senior Citizen Homestead Exemption:
This exemption reduces your assessed value by $4,000. You can apply for this exemption on your primary residence in the year in which you turn 65. You will need a copy of your deed and proof of age. You can apply for this exemption at our office.

Senior Citizen Assessment Freeze:
If you already qualify for Senior Homestead Exemption and your total household income is less than $55,000, you may qualify for Senior Homestead Assessment Freeze. This exemption freezes your assessment, but it does not freeze taxes. This exemption must be applied for on a yearly basis. Forms are sent out by the Supervisor of Assessment's office in April to those seniors who are already receiving the exemption and to new seniors who have qualified for the Senior Homestead Exemption. Do not get these two exemptions confused, every senior homeowner who turns 65 is entitled to the Senior Homestead Exemption. If you have any questions, please call our office at 744-5806.

HOMESTEAD IMPROVEMENT EXEMPTION:
A homeowner may make improvements to his primary residence and be eligible to receive an exemption for the increase of the assessment due to the improvement. This amount cannot exceed $25,000 in assessed value and is granted for four years. The Troy Township Assessor's office will file this exemption with the Supervisor of Assessments.

ALL EXEMPTIONS WILL APPEAR ON YOUR TAX BILL
